Introduction
The E-Governance initiative is a major component of the Digital Pakistan Policy, aiming to enhance efficiency in public sector operations. As part of this vision, the "One Patient, One ID" concept was introduced in 2020 to streamline patient services and optimize resource utilization in federally administered hospitals. In Phase I, NITB successfully implemented a model Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), significantly improving service delivery and hospital management.
The HMIS assists hospital staff in managing and monitoring daily operations, ensuring timely analysis and corrective action. Its comprehensive modular structure covers critical hospital functions, including patient registration, outpatient and emergency services, ICU and operation theater management, diagnostics, pharmacy, billing, and medical records.
Additional optional modules include HR, payroll, procurement, inventory, financial planning, dietary, complaint management, and app-based interfaces for patients and doctors. By integrating digital tools, the system enhances healthcare accessibility, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making, reinforcing the commitment to a digitally advanced healthcare infrastructure in Pakistan.
